About the Lab

The Root Development laboratory, affiliated to Ghent University as well as the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology, offers a dynamic working environment within a stimulating scientific surrounding.

You will be part of an international, young, enthusiastic, motivated team using English as the main language.

Our laboratory aims at unravelling the molecular mechanisms that govern the establishment of a complex root architecture.

For this purpose we mainly focus on the activities of the plant hormone auxin, which is a key regulator of nearly all aspects of root development.

Via transcriptomic approaches, reverse genetics, chemical genetics and high resolution cell biology, we have already identified several key regulators of this process, and many related projects are running in the lab.

So far, we have little or no insight into non-transcriptional auxin signalling.

The embedding of our team in the VIB, a multidisciplinary research institute, enables smooth interdisciplinary collaborations beyond the boundaries of our department.

Job description

The specific project for this position deals with exploring this obvious black spot. We currently have a preliminary dataset of auxin-

regulated phosphorylation events. The project is aimed at identifying and characterizing candidates from this dataset that are relevant for auxin-

regulated root development and work towards establishing the surrounding phosphorylation-based signalling cascade.

Profile

  • The candidate must hold a PhD, or should be expecting to obtain a PhD in the near future.
  • The candidate should have experience in the areas of biochemistry and cell biology / microscopy.
  • The candidates should have an interest in plant physiology and plant developmental biology.
  • The required skills include : protein chemistry (phosphorylation-related, protein-protein interactions), and standard molecular and cell biological techniques in vitro and in vivo.
  • Candidates must be proficient in oral and written English, have excellent communication and multi-tasking skills, be team-
  • oriented, proactive and results-driven.
