The Sr. Specialist - Innovation Officer is part of the recently-created dynamic Value centered Design & Modeling (VcDM) group of Technical R&D (TRD) division of GSK Vaccines.

The position is based in Rixensart, Belgium.

The Sr. Specialist - Innovation Officer is primarily responsible for supporting TRD scientists in developing novel vaccine production processes by facilitating the adoption of innovative applications, methods, approaches, ways of work (WoW's), and related technologies.

Background and Significance :

Scientists employed within TRD are entrusted with the function of developing new vaccines and are frequently confronted with the tasks of evaluating, screening, validating, and adopting alternative production methods, approaches, and technologies.

The Sr. Specialist - Innovation Officer facilitates and drives the adoption and implementation of innovations in TRD. The Sr.

Specialist - Innovation Officer acts as liaison between the Scientists and GSK's Innovation Ecosystem, GSK’s External R&D division, as well as third-

party (external to GSK) innovative technology and service providers. The ultimate objectives are to reduce significantly application development times and vaccines production costs.

In doing so, the Innovation Officer collaborates closely with various TRD functional departments and TRD Technical Development Leaders (TDL's).

The Sr. Specialist - Innovation Officer is fully supported by the bioprocess modeling, analysis, simulation, and economic evaluation tools available to or developed by VcDM, and also by the general business decision science capabilities of the Statistical Sciences unit of TRD.

The Sr. Specialist - Innovation Officer reports to the Senior Process Design Manager of VcDM.

Key Roles & Responsibilities :

  • Facilitate the adoption by TRD functional groups of new bio-manufacturing concepts and technologies that dramatically reduce the time to bring a new product to the market and provide additional cost-related advantages.
  • Support TRD scientists in their efforts to implement incremental or disruptive innovative projects.
  • Support the Senior Process Design Manager of VcDM in all development programs and throughout all stages of the vaccines development cycle, including candidate development, phase I-III, and launch.
  • Assist the function head in preparing innovation-related proposals and funding applications, and in communicating TRD innovation strategy to GSK's leadership.
  • Assume responsibility for the governance and prioritization of transformational technology & innovation projects within TRD, in collaboration with TRD leadership team.
  • Drive and execute the long-term innovation strategy of TRD. Develop a shared vision of innovation aligned with overall TRD strategy.
  • Lead innovation in TRD and actively participate in the GSK Vaccines innovation network.
  • Build partnerships within and across sectors, including GSK's External R&D division, third-party technology vendors, and independent innovation consortia / ecosystems.
  • Basic qualifications :

  • Master of Science (MSc) in applied sciences, engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in managing innovation programs and initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and influencing capabilities, ability to work closely with a cross-functional team internally and develop an external network.
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken and written).
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • Prior work experience in the bioprocess and / or (bio)pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Specific experience in product & process development within a biotechnology setting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of French or Italian is a plus.
