The Pfizer Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) in Brussels is a state-of-the-art research facility with sixty inpatient beds dedicated to early clinical trials (Phase 1 & 2a studies).

There are only two CRUs worldwide, one in New Haven (USA) and one in Brussels (Belgium). The clinical trials, with the help of healthy volunteers and patients, are key in the development of new medicines which will help patients worldwide.

The studies run in the PCRU are set up in collaboration with US and UK Study Teams, based on the most accurate protocols.

The volunteer recruitment department of the PCRU is responsible for the recruitment of healthy volunteers and patients, responding to the study specific criteria.

This department also ensures the visibility of the activities ran at the BRCRU and the accurate communication on those activities to tackle the taboo around clinical trials.

Colleagues in our department are the main point of contact for our volunteers, being our key partners. We are a fast growing multicultural team introducing the lay public and registered volunteers to our studies and activities.

For this role, we are looking for an enthusiastic and engaged manager who is passionate and / or willing to learn about research and ready for a multi-

disciplinary collaboration with our healthy volunteers / patients, local and global study teams, health care professionals.

POSITION SUMMARY

Leads the volunteer recruitment department by :

  • Ensuring and being responsible for the operation excellence and quality of the Pfizer Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) Volunteer recruitment service.
  • Leading by influencing strategic direction including, leadership, business performance for the Volunteer recruitment service, including healthy and patients recruitment, call center, reception, volunteer recruitment support activities.
  • Being responsible for long term recruitment planning, anticipation for all exploratory and full development studies conducted in the PCRU.
  • Ensuring with the development specialist, visibility of the activities ran at the Brussels CRU (BR-CRU) and accurate communication on those activities to tackle the taboo around clinical trials.
  • Contributing to the development and execution of long term strategy of the Global PCRU organization
  • POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prioritize and coordinate all efforts within the PCRU and collaborate between disciplines / divisions (Clinical Development, other Pfizer Clinical Research Units and Belgian divisions) to resolve issues and accomplish volunteer recruitment related organizational goals.
  • Ensure Data Protection legislation is respected
  • Develops, maintain and measures the Volunteer recruitment department capabilities and capacity (staff, equipment, supplies)
  • Anticipate recruitment needs, training, appraise and provide for career counseling / development of staff including continued competency.
  • Ensures quality volunteer data generation
  • Holds team leaders accountable for management skills and development of talents.
  • Support ongoing capture and analysis of metrics to demonstrate value and increase productivity
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of global and local SOPs
  • Establishes projects that supports alignment and harmonization of PCRU’s strategies and best practices.
  • Participate in leadership team meeting as per request
  • Delegate to expedite operational efficiency and facilitate development of supervisory staff.
  • Permanent availability role for urgent / critical safety issues and decision-making for all aspects of PCRU-BR running (On-
  • site recall duty 24 / 7 in case of critical need or urgency).

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Business Operations Director
  • Networks and collaborates with other Pfizer CRU to ensure organizational consistency of standard operating procedures.
  • Networks and collaborates with other Pfizer colleagues to identify appropriate partners for conduction of (patient)trials
  • Functional reporting relationship to clinic medical staff in areas of medical oversight and intervention for study subjects
  • Act as unit representative towards other Pfizer and non-Pfizer departments and customers
  • Collaborates across Development and Discovery departments and administrative / support departments (technical, financial, procurement, regulatory, project management, etc.).
  • PROFILE REQUIREMENTS :

    Education and experience :

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (in a health related discipline), with at least 3 years in pharmaceutical or medical research (Prior experience in Phase 1 or exploratory research advantageous).
  • Minimum of 3 year experience in a people management position (with proven experience in allocation of limited resources, staff development, change management, conflict resolution, ).
  • Assist in the training of PCRU staff and contractors with less experience and expertise
  • Responsible for complying with Pfizer Standards, ethical standards, ICH, GCP (patients / subjects rights), regulatory and legal requirements, national and European laws on health and safety at work, fire prevention and other appropriate legislation
  • Language Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English, French and Dutch are essential
  • Communication Skills

    Working knowledge of new media

    Superior written and verbal skills are essential; including the ability to communicate complicated research principles in easily understandable language

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management group, colleagues, subjects, external customers and healthcare professional
  • Strategic understanding

  • Must be able to instruct and assist less skilled or inexperienced personnel in the performance of study activities and operational support activities.

    Experience in the delivery of presentations.

    Ability to develop budget estimates, justify costs and manage performance against budget

    Clinical Research

    Working knowledge of Clinical research Process is a plus
