The Senior Manager, Privacy reports to the Privacy Director International and will play a critical role in BD’s Privacy Compliance Program.
In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Privacy Director and the Privacy team in developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective program to ensure compliance with BD Privacy policies and procedures and the various privacy laws applicable to a major global medical device manufacturer, including but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union.
Provides support to the Chief Privacy Officer, Director of Privacy, International, for the management of the Company’s privacy function and efforts to build and maintain a global privacy program that is as integrated and consistent as reasonably necessary.
Plays a significant role in the build and maintenance of an effective compliance program to help ensure compliance with BD policies and privacy laws that will meet the needs of BD’s businesses and customers and the expectations of regulators.
Provides project management leadership and support for privacy related projects, particularly the assessment of BD practices for compliance with privacy laws such as GDPR and the remediation of issues identified under those assessments.
Works closely and collaborates with other functions such as IT, Global Information Security, Product Security, Legal, HR and commercial functions to ensure privacy principles are embedded into BD’s business operations.
With direction from the Director Privacy, International, advises the Company’s business units on appropriate controls to maintain the privacy and security of sensitive information and on requirements of applicable laws.
Serve as a business partner on privacy matters for certain BD businesses, regions and / or functions. Proactively identify risks and gaps and work with the Privacy team and business partners to design solutions to address those risks and gaps.
Build and maintain a privacy risk assessment process designed to identify privacy risks on a periodic basis and develop plans to address those risks.
Establish effective policies and procedures across BD that provide guidance to BD’s businesses on how it can achieve its objectives while complying with privacy policies and laws.
Help oversee, direct, deliver, or ensure delivery of effective privacy training and guidance to all employees, contractors, vendors, and other third parties on BD’s policies and procedures in the privacy area.
Conduct compliance auditing and monitoring activities to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the Company’s privacy compliance program, in coordination with the entity’s other compliance and operational assessment functions.
Assist with the establishment and administration of a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking action on all complaints or alleged breaches or incidents concerning the organization’s privacy policies and procedures in coordination and collaboration with other functions and, when necessary, legal counsel.
Review all system-related information security plans throughout the organization’s network to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices, and act as a liaison to the IT Security function.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable privacy laws and accreditation standards, and monitor advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least 4 years of experience in a role focused on privacy and / or IT security is strongly preferred. Experience with privacy or IT security in medical device, pharmaceuticals or the healthcare industry would be a significant plus.
Candidates with experience in a similar role that requires building controls to comply with complex laws and regulations (e.
g., Internal Audit, Finance, Regulatory, Quality, HR) and an eagerness and ability to learn quickly will be considered as a second option.
Knowledge and experience on building and maintaining compliance programs and / or controls in a highly regulated area is required.
Experience working in a multinational company and a complex, matrixed environment is a significant plus.
