Group Director of Internal Audit

Based at our global headquarters in Groot-Bijgaarden (Brussels area), the successful candidate for this key, senior leadership opportunity within the group will lead the Internal Audit function and team.

He / she will manage Internal Audit assignments to provide an independent appraisal of the effectiveness of internal controls in all our Group companies.

He / she will further promote an adequate control environment at a reasonable cost.

Additionally the successful candidate for this role will :

  • Develop and leverage a digital internal audit approach using available state-of-the-art technologies such as data and process mining.
  • Combine remote audit with in the field work to optimise efficiency and Group coverage.

  • Provide an independent and objective assurance and consultative approach to improve our company operations, guided by a philosophy of continuous improvement.
  • He / she will Recommend appropriate best practice business solutions to mitigate company risks and organizational challenges, as wel as manage special projects, as per Group Executive Committee requests.
  • Ensure regular reporting and organize the appropriate information flows to ensure an adequate level of assurance to the members of the Group Executive Committee and to the Audit Committee.
  • Key Accountabilities

    Develop and implement the Puratos Audit strategy

  • Support the realisation of the Puratos' strategic ambition by reviewing and improving internal controls and business best practices.
  • Perform a risk assessment across the Group companies.
  • Design an audit plan and budget.
  • Digitalize - to the largest possible extent - the Internal Audit practice.
  • Closely monitor progress and results.
  • Inspire, motivate and manage a team of Internal Auditors

  • Recruit the adequate profile of auditors and provide them with the relevant level of training.
  • Make sure the teams assigned to audit engagements are appropriate in terms of competence and seniority.
  • Ensure the adequate supervision of the local audit teams.
  • Develop and lead the Internal Audit processes

  • Ensure that internal controls are adequate, reliable and effective, and that laws, regulations, policies, procedures and decisions are complied with.
  • Review systems, procedures and methods for the purpose of evaluating efficiency and effectiveness. Assess and improve internal audit processes, tools and techniques, in particular through the use of new digital tools.

    Determine the effectiveness of the Group’s financial and operational systems and controls. Co-ordinate operational audits together with experts and operational managers outside the Internal Audit department.

    Review financial statements

  • Support the external assurance process of the Group consolidated financial statements. For entities not directly covered by external auditors, provide assurance on the financial statements (in accordance with Group GAAP and reporting principles).
  • Contribute to fraud mitigation

    Participate in the development of fraud prevention within the Group. This means amongst others :

  • Include a fraud risk assessment in the recurring audit plans.
  • During audit field work, evaluate whether assets are effectively safeguarded against waste, fraud and inefficiency.
  • Support the development of fraud prevention tools and controls.
  • Actively participate in the Group Ethics Committee.
  • Lead and follow up on agreed action plans

  • Set up a system to monitor that audit recommendations are actually implemented by management and to provide assurance to the Audit Committee.
  • Reporting

  • Report the most significant audit conclusions, recommendations and comments from auditees to the Audit Committee.
  • Coordination with statutory Auditors

  • Work in close coordination with external auditors in assessing risks, preparing audit plan, discussing contracts, reviewing reports and management letters.
  • Share conclusions of key audit assignments.

    Provide consultancy services and recommendations to management based on best business practices.

    Contribute to maintaining organizational and professional ethical standards.

    Participate in the design, review and approval process of internal procedures of the group.

    Assist in the functioning of the Audit Committee

    Assist the President of the Audit Committee in some administrative matters : calendar of meetings, agenda of meetings, follow-up of pending matters, etc.


  • Educated to a Masters Level minimum (MBA preferred) in Finance, Economics or other relevant discipline
  • 10 years’ minimum professional experience in senior Audit and Finance roles, preferably global in scope
  • Expertise and experience in digital internal Audit methodologies
  • Experienced with proven track record in a multinational, matrix environment. At least one international work experience preferred.
  • SAP knowledge is a highly desired plus
  • Business fluent in English. Any other local language is an asset.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and people management skills
  • Travel requirement global as per business needs (accent on remote audit during the pandemic)
