has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Analytical Research Chemist (m / f) in the Molecular Structure and Process Analysis team to be located in the Analytical Science group in Seneffe, Belgium.
The group in Seneffe is part of the global Core R&D (Research & Development) Analytical Science organization that is delivering essential measurement science and problem solving capabilities to accelerate M&E (Manufacturing & Engineering) and R&D projects.
The organization is critical to the success of many projects and activities in Dow ranging from innovative research for new product development and product / process improvements to resolving and avoiding production issues in manufacturing plants.
The primary focus of the job will be on silicone-based chemistry characterization in collaboration with research / technical development groups and manufacturing.
For this position we are seeking a candidate who has excellent problem solving skills, good knowledge of organic chemistry (silicone chemistry is an asset) and a clear affinity with analytical techniques, particularly with GC, GC / MS and NMR.
Key roles & Responsibilities
Deliver high-end analytical expertise to accelerate a wide range of innovative activities for various businesses, with a strong focus on silicone-based chemistry
Serve as analytical specialist in multidisciplinary (international) teams, responsible for providing analytical answers to challenging technical questions
The role has a strong hands-on component. Bench-work is expected (at least 50% in time) as well as work with lab technicians
The applicant will need to be capable of managing multiple projects in parallel. Local and global teamwork in an interdisciplinary environment is an important part of the job
Communicate and appropriately document work in the form of internal reports / presentations and external publications / presentations (when appropriate).
Draft, contribute to and submit patent disclosures as appropriate
Understand and follow appropriate EH&S standards, policies and procedures applicable to the job. Lead by example in the area of safety behaviors by promoting safe work habits
Qualification : Qualifications
A PhD in Chemistry with a strong background in analytical characterization techniques related to molecules and macromolecules.
Good knowledge of organic chemistry, knowledge of silicone chemistry is an asset.
Affinity with analytical techniques such as GC, GCMS, and NMR is preferred
Ability to acquire, develop, and drive projects to completion by working closely with research and development groups and manufacturing.
Capable of managing multiple projects in parallel
Self-driven personality and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders from multiple backgrounds
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presenting in English as evidenced by a track record of publications and presentations
Strong focus on and commitment to safety
