    Position overview

    allnex is seeking an in-house General Counsel for EMEA. In this role, you will be based in Belgium and will have reporting line to Global Legal Director (General Counsel).

    As a key member of the EMEA legal team, you will provide legal counsel and advice regarding all allnex business activities in the region, including drafting sales and procurement contracts, employment matters, dispute resolution, international trade and compliance and ethics.

    A significant portion of the activities will focus on supporting the EMEA Business with local governance and government relationship matters.

    Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient delivery of legal counsel, advice and guidance responsive and supportive of allnex’s business objectives and operations in EMEA.
  • Develop strong, trusted relationships with business partners and external customers.
  • Learn the drivers for the business to identify opportunities to improve customer relations and to advance our growth and protect our market positions.
  • Ensure collaboration with internal functions to achieve business objectives.
  • Ensure that the business maintains high standards of ethical conduct and regulatory compliance.
  • Review contracts to identify risks (including, but not limited to, financial, operational, penalties, warranties, legal liabilities, regulatory, etc.
  • and achieve successful negotiated outcomes with customers and suppliers.

  • Educate the sales force and business and management in understanding risks and liabilities in contract terms and conditions both formally and informally.
  • Assess any claims filed against or on behalf of the company, working with the appropriate business or function to define a strategy and implement such.
  • Contribute to M&A and other project work.
  • Corporate Housekeeping including BoD-resolutions, Shareholder resolutions.
  • Contribute to drafting and applying internal policies.
  • Required skills and experience

  • Solid knowledge of International Private Law and EU law serving as a basis for the vast majority of the work happening in an international context.
  • Ability to dive into unknown areas of law within a short time frame and open-minded to dive into foreign laws.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees in multiple geographies;
  • strong client management skills with an ability to inspire confidence and trust, while still wearing the enterprise hat.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and suppliers, using influence and negotiation skills to accomplish results.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines in a fast paced matrix work environment, and display a high degree of initiative, discretion, integrity, judgment, and urgency.
  • Excellent business partnering skills, including listening and communication skills with the technical and business community.
  • Affinity with an entrepreneurial industrial environment.

  • Possess strong business instinct, sound judgment and service orientation.
  • Travel required, occasionally domestically and occasionally internationally estimated less than 20 % of the time.
  • Qualifications

  • Legal degree required (Master's level preferred). International exposure such as a post-graduate education or work experience abroad, is a plus.
  • 5 to 8 years of legal experience required of which preferably 2 years with corporate "in-house" experience.
  • Experience in managing outside counsel, contractors and consultants.
  • Compliance, audit and / or regulatory experience, preferably in an international environment.
  • Fluent capability of English in writing and speaking. Any other language is a plus.
