Cowboy is a Belgian startup that is developing innovative electric bikes for urban riders. Cowboy’s main goal is to improve urban mobility and take commuters to their destination in a more enjoyable, sustainable, and efficient manner.

Founded in 2017 by entrepreneurs Adrien Roose, Karim Slaoui, and Tanguy Goretti, Cowboy is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

Cowboy is the winner of the Eurobike 2017, the Red-Dot bicycle design award 2018, and the Red-Dot Best of the Best award for the Cowboy 2.

With traffic congestion plaguing metropolitan areas, electric bikes are proving to be the fastest means of transportation, beating cars and ground public transport.

Cowboy’s vision is to elevate the daily commute to the next level in terms of speed, comfort, and freedom of movement around the city.

Cowboy enhances the riding experience by unifying intelligent technology, delightful design, and meticulous customer service.

In April 2019, Cowboy launched its second model, the Cowboy 2, and introduced it to 8 additional countries (Germany, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom).

In June 2020, Cowboy unveiled its third-generation electric bike.

In July 2020, Cowboy raised €23 Million from international investors (including Exor Seeds, the early-stage investment arm of Exor, Isomer Capital, Future Positive Capital, and Index Ventures) in the Series B round.

Cowboy plans to recruit 30+ new talent in the next six months, scale operations, and expand its footprint across Europe through its Test Ride and Mobile Service networks.

  • We are looking for a VP of Communications to lead all owned and earned media initiatives and channels. This person will be responsible for overseeing the execution of a range of high-impact communications programs;
  • building and leading a team of communications professionals as well as agencies; partnering closely with leadership and founders at the company to set strategy.

  • Reporting to the CMO, the ideal candidate is a very talented storyteller and communication strategist with strong media relationships across tech, business, and consumer publications;
  • deep executive communications experience; and proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in the execution of high-impact programs and narratives.

    Role and responsibilities

    Ideate, produce and implement a communication strategy to position Cowboy as a thought leader in the mobility space and contribute to building one of the most adored brands on the global stage within the next five years.

  • Help develop our corporate messaging, working with our executives to refine our talk tracks and narratives.
  • Develop and implement strategic, integrated communications plans, including proactive and reactive messaging.
  • Develop and execute a proactive media relations strategy that tells the differentiated Cowboy story, promotes the brand, and protects and enhances the company’s reputation.
  • Secure high profile and thought leadership speaking engagements and campaigns.
  • Engage with reporters, editors, and other influencers to expand Cowboy’s presence in the space.
  • Manage Cowboy’s day-to-day press office activities, working with our agencies to quickly respond to inquiries and identify opportunities.
  • Be one of our key spokespeople and trusted media contacts with the ability to distill complex ideas into simple, intellectually credible narratives.
  • Anticipate and lead crisis communications.
  • Organize press briefings, media sessions, and events.
  • Build a team (in-house and agency) and manage against strategy, timeline, and cross-team collaboration

  • Set a vision for the communications team and function. Communicate clearly on priorities, goals, and progress. Grow and retain talents.
  • Be a hands-on Senior Director with all external partners including agencies, influencers, and ambassadors. Closely managing and reporting on their performance, making adjustments when necessary.
  • Interface and consult with teams across the company including product marketing, creative, eCommerce, finance, and operations.
  • Oversee and organize all of our communications assets, current and from the past : press releases and alerts, internal and external Q&A’s, videos, photos.
  • Prepare executives for interviews and speaking opportunities, including media training and speaker performance review.
  • Requirements

  • You have excellent writing and presentation skills. You’re a fantastic story teller.
  • You’ve worked in a fast-growing company, are comfortable working with ambiguity and see opportunity in change.
  • A proven track record of working with senior leaders to advise on communications strategy, whilst also being able to deliver at the tactical / operational level.
  • On-the-record experience with financial and business media outlets, along with a network of relationships with multiple global media outlets.
  • Experience working across various markets and / or regions with an extensive understanding of the German, French and UK media landscape.
  • A proven hiring manager, who has built smart and accomplished teams.
  • Excellent skills in managing difficult or complex situations, including crises and sensitive topics.
  • Culturally, a well organized individual with low ego and a bias to get things done. Someone who has strong writing and presentation skills and is a fantastic storyteller.
