We are currently looking for a Product Development Engineer (Extrusion) for our Marketing, R&D and Sustainability function.
The person will be responsible for managing and closing R&D projects in order to develop extruded films from concept through to product launch.
The role requires close collaboration with various functions (sales, marketing, procurement), customers and AF plants to generate and deliver sales / profit growth through new product development and roll out of existing concepts and value optimisation.
The person will also be the primary technical point of contact for the customer, and be responsible for dealing with technical issues, assisting with trial runs and where required investigation quality problems with existing products supplied by any of the AF plants.
Job Dimensions & Scope
The Product Development Engineer Extrusion will report to Product Development Manager. The person will be based in AF Gent Extrusion and will cover projects in all AFEMEA region.
Responsible for running, closing and following-up R&D projects
Responsible for developing films from concept to launch
First point of contact for customers and sales in relation to new project opportunities, carries out preliminary analyse of inputs / customer requirements
Responsible for technical customer satisfaction, support, trials and customer projects launch
Identify clear targets and costs. Meet project plans, create weekly project up-dates and monthly reports
Involvement and alignment with Sales & Marketing teams to ensure project prioritization and budgeting
Insure design meeting link between customer and plant regarding technical insights
Co-ordinate and support Amcor plants local R&D activities
Responsible for the trial and sample reel budget for own projects and customers
Assist the plant technical team in product optimisation
Support the innovation opportunities through the preparation of innovation presentations, workshops and meetings at customers and elsewhere to capture new sales opportunities

Complex projects - the person needs to understand the needs of the customer, the needs of the production plants, follow the procurement strategy, understand commercial framework and partnership with marketing to make sure that what it is developed ticks all the boxes and can be sold

Qualifications / Requirements
Formal Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry / Material Science or Chemical Engineering
Minimum 3 years of related experience in a resin producer or within flexible packaging industry
Deep knowledge in polymer materials science or relevant working experience with extrusion
Processes, polymer chemistry and flexible packaging applications experience or dedication to acquire the required material and technical competencies fast
Commercial acumen in a technical and innovative environment
Willingness to travel (30-40 %) to extrusion sites, converting sites and customers
Technical knowledge on packaging materials and converting processes as well as on the packaging machines
Project Management experience and proven project leadership role
Experience in working with Microsoft Office package
Fluent in English, any other language is an asset
