We are looking for a public policy individual with a legal background to join the European Parliament liaison team in the Brussels EU Affairs office.
Through your passion for digital innovation and internet services and a sound knowledge of regulatory dynamics in the European Parliament you will engage with key relevant parliamentarians, policy advisors, political foundations and other related entities.
Successful applicants will have experiences working in EU policy and in the European Parliament, and will become part of a team that is dealing with some of the most interesting public policy challenges of our times including privacy, freedom of expression, the impact of the internet on business models, and new opportunities for public service delivery.
Knowledge in e-Commerce, cyber security, data privacy legislations is recommendable. The Public Policy Manager will provide support and guidance on legislative procedures and law-making processes taking place at the European Parliament and will play an advising role to his or her manager when developing strategic plans to positively influence upcoming relevant legislation.
He or she should also have excellent writing and analytical skills and be a staunch believer of our mission to make the world a more open and connected place.

Represent Facebook in public policy engagements with key stakeholders of the European Parliament, including Members of the European Parliament, Accredited Parliamentary Assistants, policy managers and committee secretaries.
Provide guidance and understanding to the public policy team of the implications of privacy and data protection rules on the various products and services Facebook offers
In cooperation with your manager, identify, anticipate, analyse and influence policy issues, regulation and legislation affecting the services, workings and business model of the industry at the core of EU parliamentary law-making
Develop content, narratives and talking points tailor-made to the European Parliament, especially on topics related to privacy and data protection rules (GDPR, e-privacy, ) and other topical issues for Facebook
Provide insights and legal expertise on public policy strategies to defend Facebook’s position in the European Parliament co-decision and own-initiative reports, resolutions and political group’s position papers
Convey in a timely fashion to your management, the overall Brussels public policy team and cross functional teams such as legal, comms and internal partnerships, how regulatory developments can affect the tech industry and Facebook specifically
Articulate distinctly verbally and in writing our policy positions in briefing papers, consultation responses and internal policy meetings
Be a collaborative partner, in concert with your manager, to develop and enhance relationships with Members of the European Parliament, political groups as well as political parties, heads of national delegations, relevant committees and tech related working groups to communicate Facebook’s position while being a constructive actor in upcoming tech legislation
Provide support for external engagements. meetings, webinars and events with key Members of the European Parliament, assistants and policy managers as well as other relevant meetings
Track record of legal expertise on tech relevant legislation whilst mastering a clear understanding of the future of technology and regulation
Profound and in-depth knowledge of privacy and data protection rules and legislation from a European Parliament perspective
Deep understanding of the legislative processes of legislation between the EU institutions, with a clear focus on the role and institutional powers of the European Parliament
Solid experience working with Members of the European Parliament including those at the most senior levels
An ability to translate between the specialist languages of technology, policy and politics
Excellent teamwork skills with the ability and willingness to work in cross functional settings in an effective and constructive fashion
Profound interest in digital innovation, technology and internet services combined with a passion for EU politics and policies
English proficient with a preferred additional language fluency in French.
Energetic communicator with an easiness to find common ground and connect with policymakers from different political backgrounds
