Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, genome engineering refers to generation of genetically modified plants. The Plant Genome Engineering group in Trait Research combines state-of-the-art genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation expertise, as well as are highly experienced in workflow-based operational organization aimed at minimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality.
Plant Genome Engineering is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait design, creation, and testing.
For the Plant Genome Engineering group in our R&D Innovation Center in Gent (Belgium) we are looking for a pragmatic, enthusiastic and inspiring leader.
What you can expect :
In this role you will part of Trait Creation leadership.
You will lead our Plant Genome Engineering group by delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed, and quality, by balancing both group dimension and expertise.
As a Senior Group Leader, you will strive to provide a working environment and atmosphere allowing for differentiating innovation, minimal R&D timelines, and high predictive value of research observations.
You will lead and run processes of people and team development, including performance management as well as career development, and be responsible for recruitment and deployment.
You will review demand and allocate resources to R&D projects to contribute to our business objectives.
Development, implementation, and maintenance of a sustainable and competitive genome engineering expertise strategy will also be one of your key responsibilities.
You define with digital experts the vision and strategy for improved data-driven and automated workflows, and you are responsible for its implementation and the engagement of the team.
You will influence R&D project strategy by tactical and scientific input to the planning and decision-making process.
You coordinate the execution of agreed research strategy and recommend resolutions in case of unanticipated personnel- and / or financial constraints.
You will ensure that your group is compliant with all existing safety, stewardship, quality and other standards and regulations.
PhD (or equivalent through experience) with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in leading teams including leaders and experts.
You are a strong, inspiring people manager with skills and multi-year experience in leading, building, coaching, mentoring, and supporting the development of teams and team members.
You bring motivational and change management skills and experience.
Leadership) experience and recognition in the field of (plant) genome engineering is highly preferred.
Experience in enabling digital vision and strategy development and implementation.
Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
You have strong networking skills, and you can interact and cooperate with stakeholders on various levels in an organization.
Up to date knowledge on feasibility, timelines, and cost of plant biotechnology R&D processes.
You have strong communication- and presentation skills
You are fluent in English, both orally as well as in writing.
