Volvo Group Operations Graduate Program

If you are up for the challenge of developing the next generation of production plants and want to be a part of the innovative world of Volvo Group, this is the graduate program for you!

During 15 intense and exciting months, starting September 2019, the program will give you a holistic view of the Volvo Group’s global truck manufacturing organization.

You will get to know our different brands and their plants and learn about our logistics organizations and activities worldwide.

You will take a deep dive into some specific areas of our business such as manufacturing, health and safety, quality, and continuous improvements, while also learning about the end to end supply chain, aftermarket parts, and our remanufacturing operations.

In parallel, you will grow as a person, through individual and team development sessions. You will have a permanent position from day one, with a manager and mentor to support you.

You will experience several on-the-job rotations and have the opportunity to work on real project assignments. In addition, you will join a number of learning modules where you get together with other program participants to take part in trainings and events designed to help you grow into your future career at the Volvo Group.

At the Group Trucks Operation Plant in Ghent, we build around 200 heavy duty trucks per day. Guided by Continuous Improvement, the assembly plant provides a challenging working environment with our Customers’ Success as our number one priority.

This is us, your new team :

You are part of a motivated and highly competent team of production leaders. As part of this operational management team, you are responsible for the lead KPI’s in your area : safety, quality, efficiency and employee engagement.

Working closely together with the operators, engineers, business control, HR, safety and other supporting functions, you work out the most effective solutions for all the challenges a big plant like ours faces : rebalancing, product changes, new technologies and so on.

Main activities and responsibilities :

In parallel with the Operations Graduate Program common activities, you will learn how to take on a leadership role within the area of production.

As a production leader you are responsible for the daily management of the operations in a part of the truck assembly plant.

You take care of the coaching, the management and the motivation of your employees and enable them to achieve their goals together.

You coordinate and organize the activities in your area in an efficient way. You respond flexibly to changing circumstances.

You are the driving force for the continuous improvement of processes but also for the results in your work area. In all of this you take into account our Volvo values : customer success, passion, trust, change and performance.

Who are you?

To join the operations graduate program as a production leader, you should have a Master in Engineering (civil engineering, industrial engineering, business engineering) and have a maximum of two years previous work-

experience after graduation. In order to be a successful production leader, you need to be a good communicator (Dutch & English) and possess strong analytical skills.

If you are a process-oriented engineer that enjoys working in a team, has a hands-on mentality and who can motivate people, then you are the person that we are looking for.

Any knowledge of workplace organization or experience in lean manufacturing is a strong asset!

  • W11 W12 : Feedback + Online testing
  • W13 W15 : Interviews with hiring managers
  • Final decision : Feedback to all candidates left in the process
