Communications and Media Officer
The Communications and Media Officer will be responsible for ensuring a high profile for the organisation and current issues for LGBTI people with key European stakeholders and for developing content about ILGA-
Europe’s work and strategic issues for the European LGBTI movement. The post holder will, among other tasks, ensure ILGA-
Europe has strong day-to-day working relationships with key media outlets working on European affairs (in Brussels and at national level) as well as with more specialised LGBTI media;
lead in organising profiling activities to enhance the visibility of ILGA-Europe with European-level media and institutional stakeholders;
respond to press enquiries and draft press releases; contribute to expanding ILGA-Europe’s social media profile; develop materials to strengthen the capacity of national LGBTI organisations on strategic communication and to support journalists to work on LGBTI issues.
Qualifications, experience and other requirements are :
Proven track record of delivering media coverage and raising visibility of an organisation, including through build relationships with key media actors;
Knowledge of human rights international standards and equality issues, including as they relate to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people;
Proven track record of developing clear and accessible content for various communications channels (including traditional media, social media and reports);
Strong writing skills with an ability to tailor the tone, content and form of written output in line with a range of different audiences and to suit a variety of formats;
you must have the ability to simplify information and communicate it in a lively, accurate and understandable manner;
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, creatively and to use initiative, and to find innovative ways to respond to emerging organisational needs;
A very high standard of written and spoken English (mother tongue level is required);
Excellent interpersonal skills, with particular reference to working with a wide audience;
Demonstrable experience in a busy communications setting, covering a range of communications responsibilities, and demonstrated ability to produce high-
quality output within a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment;
Ability to plan and work independently, while being a strong and dependable team player; Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
Ability to work as part of a diverse team, to maintain excellent working relationships in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining both a highly organised level of accuracy and output; to plan work to ensure deadlines are met;
and to deal with multiple, sometime conflicting, priorities;
Sensitivity to working in a multicultural and diverse environment and commitment to promoting respect for equality and diversity in your everyday work;
Willingness to relocate to Brussels and to travel in Europe as required. A flexible approach to the hours and days of work.
Due to the nature of the work involved, working hours can be unpredictable and subject to change.
Useful additional experience / knowledge could include : (desirable)
Demonstrated experience in designing, producing and editing publications, working with designers / printers / new media tools;
Experience in designing and providing trainings and other capacity-building activities;
Experience of working in an NGO or knowledge of the NGO sector;
A working knowledge of another major European language.
This is a one-year full-time position . Renewal will be subject to continued funding for the post. Salary scale : from €45,694.
72 €50,967.18 (gross salary) , starting at the beginning of the scale. The organisation has a generous remuneration package, including contributing to local transportation costs, luncheon vouchers, hospitalisation insurance, a pension scheme for employees and family friendly’ policies.
Relocation support to Brussels will be given where appropriate.
