Embedded Hardware Engineer
This team of VITO is a dynamic, pioneering research and technology business in the Battery Energy Storage and Electrical Systems sector.
We are a highly experienced team in battery systems technology including fast-growing lithium-ion batteries for mobile / EV and stationary / Grid applications.
If you are hands-on senior electronics engineer and looking for a friendly, enthusiastic team in the course of hardware systems for advanced battery management systems (BMS) and Smart cells, this role is for you.
As a Electronics Engineer will design hardware and firmware for battery systems and battery management systems (BMS) based on Lithium-ion technology, used mainly in electric mobility and stationary / grid applications.
Design work on other electronic components may also be undertaken.
You will primarily work on hardware design but may also work on firmware / software or work with dedicated software engineers.
Involved in new design projects as well as support to existing production and other areas of the company.
You will carry out detailed specifications and contributes to the system architecture definition.
You will carry out detailed electronic circuit design, including simulation and design verification testing of the new design.
You will carry out PCB layout of designs using CAD software.
You select new parts, taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost.
You create designs which involve electronic control of the electrical and thermal performance of battery systems and BMS.
You prepare and present electronic designs to other members of the design team and project stakeholders at design reviews.
Documents design work and preparing reports, ensuring design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with VITO’s procedures.
You will follow departmental processes relating to management of designs, and the design and project management processes.
You have a Master Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar. You hav at least 5-10 years experience in hardware design within a relevant industry.
You can present strong all round electronic design and software / firmware skills.
Strong knowledge of Analogue and Digital Design including microprocessors / microcontrollers, programmable logic, embedded firmware / software, SMPS design, PCB design and design for EMC, Schematic capture, PCB and simulation using Altium designer or similar.
Firmware development in C
Some knowledge of design for Battery system applications including EMI / EMC specifications
The knowledge of additional programming languages like Python, C++ is a plus
The knowledge of tools like and applications like Simulink, LabView is a plus
Excellent Analytical and Problem Solving skills
Excellent written and presentation skills
Proficient in Dutch & English
Optimal homeworking for non-workplace functions during COVID19.
The unit is located in Genk. Part-time working from home, our headoffice in Mol, or working from a satellite office in Antwerp-Berchem, Ghent or Ostend is possible.
Occasional travel as required.
