The Knowledge and Research for Nutrition (KRN) project of the European Commission aims to provide improved knowledge and evidence for policy and programme design, management and monitoring & evaluation in order to reach better nutrition outcomes.

The project is implemented (2020-2024) by Agrinatura - the European Alliance on Agricultural Knowledge for Development which has established a Nutrition Research Facility (NRF), pooling expertise from European academia and having the ability to mobilise internationally renowned scientific networks and research organisations from partner countries.

Ghent University is coordinating the KRN on behalf of Agrinatura and is looking for a Team Leader. The position will be held at the Ghent University on a part-time basis (60%) for an estimated input of 380 working days commencing as of the beginning of June 2021 (with a possibility to start earlier, depending on the availability of the expert).

The TL will be required to travel to Brussels and to partner countries (when sanitary and travel conditions allow).

Main tasks of the Team Leader :

  • Lead the overall management of the KRN and ensure the overall delivery of the project and the quality of the project outputs, including of the non-key experts;
  • Lead the initiation, organisation, implementation and follow-up of the activities of the NRF and monitor the performance and outputs of the NRF team.
  • Develop and maintain networks and contacts in the field of international development and nutrition
  • Build alliances and collaboration with related initiatives and institutions;
  • Maintain close and regular contact with all stakeholders involved in the management of the project

    You hold a Master’s degree or a thesis-based doctorate in a technical area that is relevant to the work of the KRN (eg food, nutrition, agriculture, agricultural economics, international development )

    General professional experience

  • At least 10 years’ professional experience in areas directly relevant to nutrition, health, development, agronomy, etc.;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in working with developing countries;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in high-level coordination related to the above professional skills.
  • Specific professional experience

  • Demonstrable expertise in leading technical teams and programmes, and ensuring coherence with international partners and initiatives;
  • Familiarity with the latest developments in the field of food and nutrition security, including national and international policies and latest international developments, institutional arrangements, initiatives and strategies;
  • Experience and knowledge of EU development policy, cooperation programmes and procedures.

  • We offer you a contract of an indefinite duration.
  • Your contract will start on 15 / 07 / 2021 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). .
