Taken en verantwoordelijkheden The department Engine Hardware & Design is responsible for the development
Our engines and trucks are best in class products in the transportation world being always driven by providing environmentally friendly products with best cost-effectiveness and highest reliability for our customers.
The department Engine Hardware & Design is responsible for the development of new engine hardware concepts and maintaining the in-production engine families.
The department is divided in 4 groups : CAE, Injection & Turbo, Base Engine and Engine Auxiliaries. For the CAE group we have an open position for a graduate student.
The CAE-engines department is responsible for creation and validation of models that can describe and predict the behavior of the new and current engines.
Due to more increasing requirements on emissions modern diesel engines have become complex systems. These emssion legislations cause the need to add additional sub-systems to the base engine.
To ensure all these sub-systems with wiring and lines can be accomodated on the base engine support brackets are being used.
To ensure endurance life of these brackets stress levels due to mounting and engine vibrations need to be limited by optimizing their stiffness and the connections to the base engine.
Within DAF the need to determine design guidelines for casted aluminum parts has risen. One of the focus points is predicting the stress levels in the casted parts that occur after assembly.
These stresses can be mainly related to production tolerances of the casted parts and their counterparts. Based on historical data of earlier casted aluminum part designs new ideas and functions need to be implemented and calculated using FEM software.
Finally a document containing design guidelines should be written to ensure that all new / updated casted aluminum parts will be insensitve for production tolerances.
For each step the following steps need to be taken :
The assignment will be mainly theoretical using Abaqus CAE as FEM software.
