The mission of Coreso is to proactively support Transmission System Operators (TSOs) to ensure Security of Electricity Supply in Europe.
Located in Brussels, about fifty engineers, seconded from their companies or directly hired by CORESO, combine their expertise 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anticipate the operation both in the short term and the long term, from a year ahead until Intraday (few hours before real time).
Founded in 2008, Coreso encompasses nine European operators, which are also its shareholders (Elia in Belgium, Eirgrid in Ireland, 50hertz in Germany, National Grid in the UK, REE in Spain, REN in Portugal, RTE in France, SONI in Northern Ireland, Terna in Italy).
Within the European context of progressing market mechanisms, continuous growth of renewable energy, ambitious grid development and further harmonization, new coordination challenges are numerous.
Coreso aims to build up, together with all partners, the adequate coordinated operational processes to cope with these game changers.

As an intern in Coreso’s development department, you will be part of an international team of engineers who are working with TSOs to develop, experiment and implement the Long-
Term capacity calculation method and turn it into an operational process that will be operated by Coreso’s team.
You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the Long-Term capacity computation methods, which are at the interface between grid operation and the capacity allocation mechanism.
You will participate in the experimentation phase of the project by operating the prototypes and you will make them evolve towards reliable and highly automated tools.

This internship will give you a solid knowledge of grid operation rules and of the electricity market.
You will have to document, improve and test the new prototype, to organise and follow the experimentation plan agreed into the CCRs, support Coreso’s shareholders as your colleagues.
In this context, you will have regular interactions with Coreso shareholders, TSOs and other RSCs involved in the CCRs and Coreso tool providers.
You might also have interactions with other project engineers who are working in the same CCR but for other timelines (D-
2, Intraday) or on connected projects (mainly Maintenance Outages Planning Coordination (OPC)).
As any project engineer, you will execute a function based on change. Therefore, your tasks will cover project management activities (scope and approach, planning and work organisation, follow-
up and reporting, ) as expertise activities (contribution to the project deliverables, processes design, tools specifications, results analyses, support after the service Go life, ).
Long-Term Capacity calculation consists in determining the volume of capacity available for Yearly and Monthly allocation processes between the bidding zone borders.
The process is implemented by Capacity Calculation Regions, which regroups TSOs according to the ENTSO-E definitions.
Coreso is currently involved in 4 CCRs for which Long-Term capacity calculations have to be implemented : CORE (16 TSOs of 13 different countries), Italy North (5 TSOs & countries), SWE (3 TSOs & countries) and Channel (4 TSOs & countries + 4 interconnectors).
The calculation is based on models of the European grid on which a complex series of operations and improvements (load flows, maintenance outages integration, computation of capacity via linear approached) is performed.
It is currently computed via an experimental prototype just designed and developped, for which an HMI has to be defined and developed, and also which needs to be improved and documented before to be gradually automated to become an operational process.
The ideal candidate is an engineering student at Master degree level (4th or 5th year of studies). We are looking for somebody detail oriented, organized and creative and who possesses a professional work ethic and who is enthusiastic to gain new knowledge.
